It is that time of the week when you want to sit down, grab a cup of chai or coffee and read about a man who was at the helm of making the Indian IT sector a global force.
F C Kohli never thought he would become an engineer. He was all set to join Indian Navy. A sudden change in the course sends him to engineering college.

Birth and Early Life:
F C Kolhi was born in Peshawar of Undivided India in 1924. He completed his B Sc from the University of Punja, Lahore.
After his father’s death, he applied and was selected for the Indian Navy. While he was waiting to be commissioned, he applied for a scholarship to study engineering outside India.
Young F C Kohli
After winning the scholarship, he went to Queen’s University in Canada. He completed his B Tech in Electrical engineering.
Later he went to MIT to complete his masters.
His time in Tata Group:
After completing his masters from MIT, Kohli returned to India and joined Tata Electric.
During his career at Tata, he introduced Digital computers in the power management system. And when TCS was formally established he became the first CEO of TCS.
Life in TCS:
He was instrumental in getting the first foreign client of TCS, Burrough Corporation.

Under his leadership, TCS introduced computerised banking in many Indian companies in Banks.
He remained in TCS as its CEO till 1996.
Contribution to technical education: Apart from Tata Group, Kohli also helped various institutes of India is setting up their technical education faculties. He worked with IIT Kanpur, College of Engineering Pune, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in various advisory capacities.
Fakir Chand Kohli died on 26 November 2020. For his contribution to setting up the first Indian IT company, he is regarded as the “Father of the Indian IT Industry”.
